Hands of Help is a grassroots, independent charitable association working to improve the lives of people around the world by enhancing their access to health care and education. Since its inception in 2005, the organisation has raised over $500,000 which has been dedicated to multiple projects, including:

  • The Rebuilding of 4 primary schools in rural Uganda

  • Facilitating a Sponsorship programme for vulnerable and orphananed children in Kenya

  • Establishing a Ugandan Community Health Project, run by Ugandans and for Ugandans to reach a population of 50,000 people with grassroots health care

  • Initiating an Indigenous Health project to enhance medical students' knowledge of, and exposure to, our nation's dichotomous health situation; and

  • Founding of the Sydney African Film Festival; raising awareness of issues pertinent to the continent through the cultural diversity of film.

All of this has been achieved while simultaneously maintaining overhead and administration costs of less than 1% - that is, for every dollar donated, over 99c is spent on the ground in Africa. This is a figure not achieved by any other known charity in Australia and is thanks to the tireless hardwork and dedication of the Hands of Help volunteers and charity's execuitve committee, all of whom have worked within the organisation in an entirely voluntary capacity for the ten years since Hands of Help's inception.
